School Work was canceled today and tomorrow, so things are pretty A-plus around here.  We got at least 10 inches of snow today, maybe a foot - we haven't officially measured yet.  And it's STILL coming down like crazy.  We've shoveled the driveway twice, the last time just an hour ago, and it looks like there's already a fresh inch out there.  We only live half a mile from Grandpa's house, so we tromped up the unplowed road to have dinner with him tonight and to watch the KU basketball game, then tromped back down.  Both times, someone was out with a dog who was so rapturously excited to come play with us in the snow.  I fell down shoveling Grandpa's back porch, and then almost wiped out twice on our return journey.  (At the beginning of this winter, I vowed it would be a No Fall Winter.  I've fallen three times.)

Today we watched a documentary about the Oscars, which was pretty enjoyable, some Nigella, and then the first episode of Beauty and the Beast with Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman.  I vaguely remember watching it as a very wee child, and basically only remember how much I wanted Catherine and Vincent to kiss, so it was pretty fun to revisit that.  Tomorrow I plan to get more writing done - I did a smidgen today - and maybe try to catch up a little on my backlog of TV.

Day 2 - A show that needs more viewers

The Americans!  It's only got one season under its belt, but unlike a lot of first seasons, this was a show that knew what it was right out of the gate.  Two undercover Russian agents in Washington D.C. in the early 80s.  The Cold War, espionage, cons, costumes.  Fake mustaches.  And then there's like all this deep stuff about how it's like a ~cold war in their marriage.  Perms.  A really kicking soundtrack.  These people are really attractive, like for real.  And it just kept getting better and better, until the season finale, which was legit great television.  I am super-excited to see it come back, so now's the perfect time to do a quick 13-episode binge and get caught up - and help keep this awesome show on the air!

Day 2 - A sad gif

kungfuwaynewho: (ib laughing)
Tonight my sister and I watched two episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - "Frank's Pretty Woman" and "The Gang Goes to the Jersey Shore."  We also watched the Season Seven blooper reel.

I laughed so hard I cried, and then my throat closed up, and then I had a coughing fit, and then I threw up a little.

I'm not even exaggerating, not even a little bit.

...just demonstrates how stupid and out of touch these people are.  From this article, some idiot who doesn't understand how causation actually works says that "digital music sales rose after file sharing service Limewire's shutdown in 2010."  First of all, who the hell was still using Limewire in 2010?  But second of all, how on earth could you say that one led to the other?  This is like that whole sea piracy/global warming thing.  "Collectively, this evidence strongly suggests that the shutdown of illegal sites helps create a thriving and diverse digital marketplace."

No.  What it does is force new alternatives.  Napster gives way to Kazaa that gives way to Limewire that gives way to torrents and from there to Megaupload and its ilk, and now that the direct download sites are under attack, something new will pop up.  Why?

BECAUSE I DO NOT BUY SHIT IF I DON'T KNOW IF I LIKE IT OR NOT.  I don't know why this is so hard for these people to understand.  I am not just going to buy a DVD or a CD without having seen or heard it first.  I don't have the money to throw around on a whim, and most other people don't, either.  I've purchased things I never would have without downloading them first, because I never would have known those things existed.  When was the last time you heard Gogol Bordello on the radio?  Exactly.  But I have four of their CDs and have gone to two concerts, and I guarantee you I never would have even known about them at all if I hadn't been exposed to their music online.

Also, I rarely buy books.  I read them for free from the library.  How come no one's shutting down the libraries?  What's the difference, really?

If I had to actually purchase all the media I consume then I simply wouldn't consume much at all.  That's what these imbeciles don't get.  I have a finite amount of money.  I'm not just going to magically have more because you shut off my access to popular culture.  If the only way I can listen to that song that I'm so-so on is to buy it then I just won't buy it.  I don't download movies, so if something comes out and it doesn't excite me enough to go out to the theaters, then I just fucking wait till I can watch it for free when the library buys the DVD.  The end.  I don't even Redbox that shit.  BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY ALL MY ENTERTAINMENT.  Sorry, media.  Sorry, studio execs and producers and everyone else.  That's just the way it is.

They act like it's a zero-sum game and it's not.  If I download an episode of American Horror Story because I missed it and I'm so far behind the episodes aren't up on Hulu anymore, I haven't stolen anything.  Nothing is missing.  I already missed the live airing so I'm not counting in the ratings anyway and whether I watch it six weeks later will have no impact on their ad sales.  But if I have the chance to go ahead and watch it by downloading it?  I might end up buying it when it comes out on DVD.  I certainly won't buy it sight unseen, that's for damn sure.  I don't know why they can't see this fact.  It's not that hard to figure out.

(I have been thinking countless iterations of this rant since last week.  Reading that article finally put me over the edge.)

So I am typing this post one-handed for reasns that will become evident shortly.  Also I'm in a hurry so I'm not bothering to check the monitor w/e it will be funny to read tomorrow.

My little sister found the leash t take my dog on a walk.  He got super excited and like swung his body around and slammed it into my computer chair.  I don't know if anyone else's dogs do that.  All would have been well had my left arm not been dangling to the side.  My dog basically like body-checked my wrist, the wris that had surgery on it less than a week ago, and pinned it with his surprisingly heavy, stupid dumd dog body.

OH MY GOS IT HURT SO MUCH I'm not fucking joking call a fucking ambulance.  I'm really glad I opted not to have a hard cider for dinner because I am going to take a ~~~pain pillll it is throbbing like the dickens.

I am fully aware that I have a very low pain tolerance.  I would be like the worst soldier ever.  If I ever have a baby I am going to have all the drugs.  This is not a euphemism i will make them give me everything, I will be like "BITCH I NEED TO CHUG SOME NYQUIL" and I had finally started typing with two hands yesterday.

(It will be probably feel completely fine in like ten minutes LOL I will wait on the pain pill.  They should only be used wisely, like when I have monster Godzilla headaches or the next time I stub my toe or something.)
