Icon post!  Everyone over at [livejournal.com profile] theiconthrone submitted caps, and I selected 12 to make icons.  Multiple fandoms, multiple styles - I took this opportunity to experiment and have fun.

Considering the amount of time I spend screenwriting, and how much of what I write is horror, and how influential the film "Vampyr" has been on my horror aesthetic, it should not be a surprise that when it came time to make icons representing me, I turned to a movie that so perfectly encapsulates what frightens me the most.

Whew, I made it through the month of May.  That was the fifth May since I started doing the annual screenplay contest/festival extravaganza, and I think it may have been the most work and the most stressful.  (The very first May, my last semester in grad school, may still take the cake, though, since I was doing all of that on top of my master's thesis.  That was right before most contests switched to online entries, and I will never forget finding out the post office closed at 4:30 instead of 5:00 like I thought, and having to literally sprint across campus to get my script postmarked on time.  And since it was May in Austin, it was totally like four thousand degrees that afternoon, too.)  I continued to do revisions after getting the thing done at the beginning of the month.  Then finally got my ass in gear to do the revisions on my TV pilot, which ended up entailing a lot more work and rewriting than I had originally guessed.

So I finished all of that Tuesday the 29th.  The last major deadline was June the 1st.  Instead of just submitting and being done with it, I decided that since I had three days, that was totally enough time to bang out a Game of Thrones spec script.  (It wasn't.)  (I did it anyway.)  Then I got to work the kick-off summer reading weekend immediately following, and got a new project on my second job, and, and, and.  Well.  Let's just say that I'm still really fucking tired, pals.

I'm finding myself still sort of not feeling the whole internet thing right now, though.  Not sure why.  I think some of it is that I've come to associate the internet with feelings of guilt over not writing and being productive; I'm sure that will sort itself out soon.

Um.  This post is really boring.  Have some icons!

I know what you're thinking: Shannon's posting something that isn't Babylon 5 fanfiction?  Yes, I am!

First up, some icons and a wallpaper for [livejournal.com profile] ghanimasun

(1-5)

The rest are graphics I've made for assorted challenges, gift-giving endeavors, and some older things I'm reposting - I've got a bunch new Babylon 5 folks on my flist, so I'm putting up a few of my old favorites.

Fringe, Terminator and Babylon 5 graphics under the cut. )

Made a whole bunch of Fringe icons for [livejournal.com profile] fringeverse.  (Speaking of which, the next round starts soon, so if you're a fan of the show and are interested in a challenge comm, let me know and I'll direct you to the sign-up post!)  The bases were all made by various members, usually five a piece; I just did the coloring and textures and such.  (Though I will admit to fiddling with the crops on a couple.)

I was going to put together a West Memphis 3 linkroll this weekend, but I couldn't do a better job than [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda who put together a very comprehensive overview of the case here.  Also, if you've heard anything about the case, you've probably heard about the celebrity supporters like Johnny Depp and Eddie Vedder.  It wasn't until this weekend that we learned who paid for a huge amount of the private investigators, DNA testing, and other big-ticket fees related to the last ten years of concentrated effort to get these three men out of prison - Peter Jackson.  That's right.  When you went to see Return of the King for the third time, you were helping get these innocent men free.

To switch gears completely, an icon meme!

1. Reply to this post with "UNICORNS", and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

[livejournal.com profile] naushika picked the following:

- It's Jayne from Firefly!  I love his "disguise."  Could he draw any more attention to himself? ♥

- The icon that lives in my heart November - March, aka college basketball season.

- HAHAHA I love this icon.  I saved it years ago from Fandom Wank, have no idea who made it.

- It's Tron!  I cropped a publicity still, nothing fancy.  I didn't even do the texture.  *pets BB BB*

- Lord, this set of icons.  I made them from the Babylon 5 S3 opening credits, which meant I had to clone stamp off everyone's names from their faces.  Luckily Mira's name was just on her hair, so that was easy.

[livejournal.com profile] ghanimasun chose:

- Picard!  This isn't a publicity still; he just looks that heroic.

- The Stupendous Yappi!  From one of the greatest episodes of TV ever, "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose."  Scully's faaaace.

- Shoshanna!  Inglourious Basterds 4evr.

- John Sheridan!  Looking v. noble and handsome.  *pets BB BB*

- I forget his character's name!  From Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, with Richard Ayoade and Matt Berry.  If you like absurdist British comedy, you have to watch this show.  (I think it's all up on YouTube.)

ETA: Is anyone else having problems with the new rich text editor?  I've had to edit this entry like a bazillion times, it keeps switching the usernames I have linked, and one time it just erased half the entry.  I am not pleased.

1. This comes from Father Ted, which now that my sister owns the first season, I should get some caps and make an actual icon.  This is from like the only good image I could find through Google search.  In this scene, the fathers are protesting a film, which of course makes everyone on the little island decide to come see it, and it becomes a smash hit.

2. I'm really proud of this icon.  I shouldn't be, as BSG practically icons itself - the show has such wonderful cinematography and framing that I feel like just opening up a cap means your job is halfway done.  But I really actually worked on the coloring for a change, and it's the rare time I used a light effect that really enhanced the icon instead of just being like "hi i'm a shiny light!"

3. Torgo is for lovers.  Torgo is, of course, from Manos: Hands of Fate, which is one of the greatest Mystery Science Theaters.

4.  I have like fifty caps of this scene.  John and Delenn are love.

5.  Ha, okay, this is one of my favorite quotes from The Office.  Dwight goes behind Michael's back, and Michael finds out.  He calls Dwight out on his betrayal.  Dwight starts bargaining to keep his job.  He offers to do Michael's laundry for a year.  Michael shouts out, "I have a laundry machine!"  This reminds me that I need to make more text icons.

And now it's time to work.  :(  (No, working is okay; I am still enjoying my new job quite a bit.)
