I have finally come to the end.  To [livejournal.com profile] nhpw, [livejournal.com profile] hollywobbles, and [livejournal.com profile] singer_shaper, as Sheridan said, "thank you" seems poor and inadequate.  (Holly is like, huh?  And I'm like, watch Babylon 5.)  We'll talk more later about how I can repay you three for all you've done.

This has been a pretty good day.  I got to sleep in (until 9:00 am!), I had a very good writing day, I won a Bingo at [livejournal.com profile] scifiland, KU beat Nebraska, visited with my Gamps, had some restorative alone time this evening, made chocolate cake in a mug, and played some Civ.  Now that I'm done posting, I'm going to play some more Civ, and then maybe read in bed covered with thousands of blankets.  Wonderful.

Sigh.  My scripts always run too long.  It'll be interesting, in revision, trying to cut this son of a bitch down.  It really doesn't need to be any longer than 100 pages total, considering the genre, but I'm going to be lucky to wrap up this first draft in 130.  Ugh.

And I once thought I would finish this in thirty-one days.  I wish I could travel back in time and pinch my adorable, stupid little cheeks.Pages 106-111 )

I would say about eighty percent of this scene will end up as exposition way back in Act One, more than likely in a different form (i.e., show and not tell), and the twenty percent that will remain is missing the dramatic punch it needs, though I figured out while writing it what I need to make it work.  First drafts, y'all.  I needed to finally just write this so I could move on, so take all of this with a grain of salt - it's more about the information than the presentation.

I have more written than this, but I'm in the middle of a scene and I don't want to put up just the first half.  I've reached a point in the story, and this always happens around Act Three, where I've put together the climax but am realizing that I haven't fully set up what I need to get there.  Sometimes I go back and edit and/or revise at this point; sometimes I just soldier on and make notes for when I do go back in revision.  In either event, I will make a note of what you would need to know for everything to make sense.

But that's why I rarely bother to do a full outline for a first draft past the midpoint - I know that I'm only really going to work it out as I write.

AND SHE'S BACK ON THE HORSE.

Sleep paralysis incident this weekend!  I woke up, and for the first time since I was a kid, had my eyes open.  (It was unpleasant.)  First, I heard what sounded like a cabinet door in the kitchen slam shut.  Then someone running down the hallway toward my room.  Then a light went on and off.  Then...silence.

My absolute first thought was, of course, that there was a demon.  I mean, could that have been more Paranormal Activity?  Then I figured it was my brother doing who-knows-what, but when I asked him the next day he insisted he never got out of bed.  I checked with everyone else, even though I figured no one else would be running around the house.  The only alternative was sleep paralysis.

Which is kinda weird, since I never actually felt paralyzed.  That, coupled with my second visual hallucination in my entire life (the first and previously only one being when I was five, and I woke up to a little girl's face a few inches from mine, staring at me), still has me wondering just a bit if it actually was sleep paralysis, but I can't think of what else it would be.  Brrr.  I do not need to be seeing lights go on and off in the middle of the night.  No thank you, brain.

Barring a miracle, I think we can safely say that I will not be finishing my NaScreeWriMo in November.  I will still be finishing the script, and I'll still post the pages as I go, but that ship has sailed.  Ah well.

Today was the first day I was smart enough to figure out that the "Day Blank" in my subject is the same as today's date.  Because it started on November 1st.  I don't have to scroll back down and check and see what the previous day was.

Also, it occurred to me while writing these pages that I might need to actually name "blank-faced manservant."  Tell me what you think.

And this brings us to the midpoint!  So we're halfway done, and after thirteen days; I am hopeful that this will give me enough of a buffer to actually finish in November.  That would be smashing.
