kungfuwaynewho: (b5 londo d)

As the temperature goes down, my life force goes up!  I just want to, like, roll around outside.  I can't be hyperbolic enough about how excited I am about the weather right now!

Ugh, I am seriously embarrassed by that horrible emo post from yesterday.  Can we all just pretend it never happened?  Awesome.

Today is a perfectionary day wrt weather.  Lower 60s, overcast, drizzly.  It's already October in my heart, you guys!  To that end, I'm starting to think of my Halloween plans.  Isn't Halloween the best?  I need to secure permission to wear a witch's hat or something similar at work that day, since I'll be working.  (Sadfaces forever.)  I don't know if my little sister is going to be trick-or-treating this year; I've quite enjoyed driving her and her friends around the last few years.  I just ferry them from one place to the next, chill in my car with a scary book, and collect candy tolls.  Unbeatable.

I'm thinking of setting up a Halloween/Autumn music sharing post in a week or so.  There's always a ton of them around for Christmas music, but I've never seen one for Halloween, and I have a surprisingly large amount of Halloween music.  As one does.

One of the things I did go ahead and buy this weekend, because it's depressing to be on vacation and have zero souvenirs whatsoever, is a cast iron skillet.  I've always wanted one, and after thinking about it, I decided to go for it.  The first thing I am going to make is pineapple upside down cake, probably tomorrow since I work till 9 tonight - it should be prodigious.

I've been trying to get some landcomm challenges out of the way.  I made this Luther wallpaper yesterday for a gift-giving challenge, and I am very proud of it.  (Why am I only able to make good graphics for gifts and non-voting challenges?  Seriously.)  I'm...not sure if I'm going to be able to get to the [livejournal.com profile] scifiland Big Bang, though.  I should have been working it all along, but somehow, out of nowhere, I didn't.  And it's due the same day as the [livejournal.com profile] het_bigbang, and I'll be cutting it close just to get that done.  (Where has all the tiiiiiime gone?!)  Anyway, you'd think then that I'd be working really hard on those, but no, I spent like two hours doing online jigsaw puzzles yesterday.  Productive uses of free time FTW!

It is hot as balls around here.  I know a lot of other people are under heat advisories now, so you know of what I speak.  (Not a word, Noelle.  Not a single word.)  I pretty much have no desire to live.  I wake up every morning with all of these plans and all of these things I want to accomplish, and by the time I get home from work all I want to know is go into stand-by mode and lie down in a cool place.  Like yesterday - I was going to write!  Watch this movie a coworker lent me!  Work on Latin!  Clean my computer room!  What did I do?  I laid in bed, in my jim-jams, for four solid hours reading.  Which, don't get me wrong, reading is nice, but still.  I felt like I wasted my day off.

I am also super-tired of summer reading at work.  STOP READING BOOKS, KIDS.  I DO NOT WANT TO CHECK THEM IN ANYMORE.

As far as my writing goes, I'm having a problem with having way too many irons in the fire.  I'm writing, I just can't manage to get anything done.  I have two old B5 series languishing, my [livejournal.com profile] het_bigbang, this BSG/B5 crossover, [livejournal.com profile] tron20in20, another Tron series, my novel that I've kinda stalled on, and then this weekend I decided to start a new screenplay.  HALP.

I have a bazillionty tabs open - I check my flist, open up all the posts I intend to read and comment on, and by the time I get done opening them all up I'm tired and ready for bed, or it's time to go to work.  I need to ask Gwyneth Paltrow for tips on how best to curate my social media.  I also need to copy/paste all the fic I have waiting and stick it on my ereader - that worked well the previous times I did it, in terms of finally getting stuff read.  I'm finding I have a shorter attention span when it comes to reading things on my computer.

ANYWAY, now I'm off to bed, leaving a few more tabs open in the meantime.  Fnar.
kungfuwaynewho: (holy shit)
My sister and I were driving to work when the tornado sirens went off.  Like all good Kansans, instead of saying, "We must be under a tornado warning!  We should seek shelter!" we said, "Whee the sirens this'll be a really good storm!"  Then we went to Big Lots as planned.  She started work at noon, I didn't start till 12:30, so I sat upstairs in the break room and ate my lunch.  Unbeknownst to me, everyone else was huddled against the back wall, staff and patrons alike.  My sister was finally like, should we get Shannon?  She's just, like, eating cereal upstairs next to a whole bunch of windows?  But by then we got the all-clear.

This also reminds me of the time the sirens went off a few years ago and my family all turned to look at each other and said, no, we will finish watching Rio Bravo and then if they're still going off, then we'll go down to the basement.

(Lest you think I'm too flippant, because of our local geography most storm systems tend to split to the west of us and head either north or south.  We do always make sure we unplug our computers, though, because we've been hit by lightning three times, and replacing all our electronics is a pain.)

Now, of course, we have bright sunny blue skies outside.  Oh, midwest, you're the best.
kungfuwaynewho: (squee)
HAHAHA.  On Wednesdays I work 12:30 to 9:00pm, but we're closing at 5:00pm today because of snow.  Half-day!  Yes!  Snow is fucking succeed!

I am going to go home and do the following:

1) Eat delicious noms.
2) Watch some Pride and Prejudice (I am watching the BBC mini with Colin Firth for the first time).
3) Write some fic.  (Valentine's Day J/D smoochy fic!  Yay!)
4) Snuggle with cats.

And I will also just randomly shout "Yay!"  Like that pig in the Geico commercial who does, indeed, go "Whee!" all the way home.
kungfuwaynewho: (dwight sad)
It is so hot this summer. I was outside for all of five minutes washing a rug (I think a cat peed on it, sigh), and by the time I came in I had to cool off under an air vent. Yesterday, Laura and I got up really early to go mow Grandpa's lawn before he got out and did it himself, and by the time we got there he was of course all ready outside weed-eating. Anyway, I did the push-mowing parts, and his push mower is not power, and by the time I got done I looked like Albert Brooks in Broadcast News, when he has to go on air for the first time.

One of the reasons I don't mind winter is that I can always throw on another sweater or something. I can't, like, take my skin off in the summer.

I think I'm going to expand the third act of Flesh and Blood. I've been thinking about it lately, and I feel like there just isn't enough fall-out between Maggie and John, that the movie is really about the revelation of what he is and it gets kinda stuck in there at the end. So I have a festival-length version that works and I don't want to trash it, but instead of cutting out all the Butcher stuff, just taking off from those last ten pages and going from there. Like, what actually happens next between them. It would need to have some action because then otherwise the climax ends up, like, two-thirds of the way through the movie and that doesn't work. But I don't want her to kill him? So IDK, I'm thinking it through.
