It is hot as balls around here.  I know a lot of other people are under heat advisories now, so you know of what I speak.  (Not a word, Noelle.  Not a single word.)  I pretty much have no desire to live.  I wake up every morning with all of these plans and all of these things I want to accomplish, and by the time I get home from work all I want to know is go into stand-by mode and lie down in a cool place.  Like yesterday - I was going to write!  Watch this movie a coworker lent me!  Work on Latin!  Clean my computer room!  What did I do?  I laid in bed, in my jim-jams, for four solid hours reading.  Which, don't get me wrong, reading is nice, but still.  I felt like I wasted my day off.

I am also super-tired of summer reading at work.  STOP READING BOOKS, KIDS.  I DO NOT WANT TO CHECK THEM IN ANYMORE.

As far as my writing goes, I'm having a problem with having way too many irons in the fire.  I'm writing, I just can't manage to get anything done.  I have two old B5 series languishing, my [livejournal.com profile] het_bigbang, this BSG/B5 crossover, [livejournal.com profile] tron20in20, another Tron series, my novel that I've kinda stalled on, and then this weekend I decided to start a new screenplay.  HALP.

I have a bazillionty tabs open - I check my flist, open up all the posts I intend to read and comment on, and by the time I get done opening them all up I'm tired and ready for bed, or it's time to go to work.  I need to ask Gwyneth Paltrow for tips on how best to curate my social media.  I also need to copy/paste all the fic I have waiting and stick it on my ereader - that worked well the previous times I did it, in terms of finally getting stuff read.  I'm finding I have a shorter attention span when it comes to reading things on my computer.

ANYWAY, now I'm off to bed, leaving a few more tabs open in the meantime.  Fnar.

Oh, man. The HEAT ADVISORIES. They SUCK ASS. I hate them. I feel for you, just slightly north of where you are.

I mean, honestly, it's not so bad for most people who can spend most of the day inside with air conditioning. I hate this heat because my Grandpa's stubborn and won't turn on his air/sits outside/does yard work, so I just end up worrying about him a lot.

WHAT WHAT I WASN'T GONNA SAY ANYTHING I SWEAR

*pats* YOU HAVE SO MUCH GOING ON. But I totally know the "I'MMA JUST LAY HERE AND READ FOR HOUUUUUUUUURS, NOBODY BOTHER ME" urges. They're fun. :D

I actually had my first pang of longing for cooler weather today. I promptly gasped in shock and slapped myself.

Aw, you poor thing. You do get colder winters than we do by far, so I can't blame you.

Heh, it's not even the cold that bugs me so much as it is the gray, the dark, and the scary roads. It's depressing/tension-inducing.

But srsly, it's not nearly as hot here as it is where you are (actually, it's been quite lovely here) and I was altready starting to have fantasies about crisp air and sweaters and apple cider. You have my sympathy.

It's so weird how people can respond so differently to the same stimuli. I like dreary days, LOL. Especially if I get to stay in and cuddle with some kitties and cover up with blankets and drink warm things! Oh, how I love fall and winter.

I'm with you on driving on scary roads, though. They are boo.

See, I like dreary days! I love dreary days, especially in the summer and fall, where they're all atmospheric and gloomy and rainy! It's that day after day, turning into weeks, turning into months of greyish/white skies with the sun setting before I even get out of work that starts to get to me, and I generally don't even realize it's happening until a spring day hits and suddenly I feel better (or the last year or two I've had the presence of mind before then to realize that that's probably why I'm feeling so depressed around February or March, and that my life isn't actually as hopeless as it seems). I just have mild SAD, I think.

I need to ask Gwyneth Paltrow for tips on how best to curate my social media.

I don't know why, but I can not stop laughing. XD

She totally had that phrase on her website once! She talked about curating social media! I mean what the actual hell!

Hahaha I had a feeling she really said that. XD A friend and I were talking about her sometimes-annoying opinions and advices. XD

Bad influence! Lol as a future teacher I say keep reading kids! Haha omg these heat advisories! I live near Detroit but 113ish in Cincinnati yesterday? Omggg

Hee! Honestly though, it's just these kids who check out 50 picture books every three days. There's no way they're actually reading all of them. I think they come through, pick out a bunch of books, then read the ones they want at home, instead of actually picking what they want when they're here. There is no reason anyone needs to check out a hundred or so books a week.

My dad and I are planning on starting a petition against to much sun and resulting heat. And I'm sure we have lower temps than you and I already hate it. I stop functioning properly when it gets humid and over 25°C (don't know how much that is in fahrenheit right now).

And I know the tab problem...have it all the time, I manage to read the entries but save the links to comment some day.

LOL 25C that's adorable. We were 38C yesterday, it was painful.

I haven't even gotten around to reading the entries! I used to be able to keep up at work, but we've been super busy lately. Siiiiiiigh.

I knowxD Luckily we never get something like 38, I think last summer 35 hit the highest mark. But I feel myself melting when I just hear/read 30° and higher. Just too much, I had it in New York with all the humidity too, I felt like I was dying.

All the summer reading huh?

Humidity makes everything worse.

I just don't understand why everyone's in such a hurry to get books when it's this hot outside! Just stay home!

Definitly.

I have a bunch of books I want to read over the summer because next semester I probably read again for my English module all the time. And even if I had read all my books at home...I love to reread them^^

100 today and warnings not to breathe the air. I want to go back to Maine!!
I've been hiding in the basement hogging the teevee. Lucky there is stuff to watch, this mid summer premiere thing is starting to make sense.

Normally I'd go swimming to cool off, but the pool feels like bathwater - not that refreshing, alas.

Our community pool is closed this week for swim meets. No cooling off and no energy siphon for rambunctious boys...

I've always hated cold weather... as I get older, I realize that I also hate extremely hot weather. Need moar temperate zone, plz. We've been under heat warnings too, sucks. Mom and I had to go out to the (dead) mall to walk b/c we couldn't go anywhere outside.

The kids should keep reading, sorry! Maybe they could all get Ipads or Kindles, then you wouldn't have to check anything in/out.

Date: 2011-07-12 03:28 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kungfuwaynewho.livejournal.com
I'd take cold weather any day over this. I can always put on another sweater; I can't take off any more of my body, LOL.

I don't have a problem with a lot of the kids. It's the ones during summer reading who check out 50 books at a time, return them the next day, then check out 50 more. It only takes a couple of those a day to really slow you down, because it takes foooooreeeeveeeer to check in/out that many picture books.

I DON'T KNOW. I think about people out here on the prairie, no AC, in houses made out of sod, in long-sleeved dresses with petticoats and shit...it makes me want to cry just thinking about it.

Seriously. I usually leave my house to write, too, but the idea of driving here and there and lugging my laptop around is just no, so I haven't been writing, so that's another thing depressing me. Siiiigh.

Four hours of reading sounds productive compared to watching 9 episodes of The West Wing in the last 24 hours. XD

I am so bad at the multiple tabs thing too. I seem to always have a few left every night.

Good luck on the writing! I have been so neglectful of mine lately.

Hee! See, if I'm watching new episodes of TV, I still feel productive. It's when I lay around watching random Food Network shows that I start feeling sorry for myself.

What do you write?

Oh,yeah, those shows are like sinking into the pit. But so addictive! I got rather caught up in that Four Weddings show on TLC for a little while. The women were all just so catty to each other; it was such a train wreck. But I loved it! And then hated myself afterwards. XD

Sometimes fanfic, sometimes orig-fic. I write for Doctor Who mostly (when I feel like it, though I think I've actually shared a grand total of two of those). And for orig fic, just whatever. Sometimes fantasy, sometimes "realistic" (??) I guess you could call it. Like I've written several short pieces based on one of my grandmothers; that seems to have been a big source of inspiration for me lately. :D
