WHAT JUST HAPPENED ON FRINGE

GUYS

AAAAHHHH

So was Nina replaced?  Has she been locked up in that basement for all the time that fake Nina's been dosing her?  Why am I just now wondering for the very first time why we've never seen Alt!Nina before has that been addressed before and I just missed it/don't remember it?  WHY IS THERE A DISORIENTED NINA IN THE BASEMENT?!

I of course knew the second Olivia left the car something bad was going to happen.  Like, hello Fringe writers, I HAVE WATCHED AN EPISODE OF TV BEFORE OF COURSE WE ALL KNEW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN.

(I think I'm mostly excited because this is like the second episode of Fringe I've managed to watch live out of the last ten or so.)

LOL, me too. I was like "Nooooo Olivia you can't leave the carrrrrr". But alas, she had to pee. And get kidnapped. And the writers couldn't have Olivia and Peter be happy together for more than five seconds.

I have to say, though, it still doesn't feel like ship-teasing to me, or that the writers are intentionally devising ways to keep them apart. It just feels like the natural after-effect of the drama of the show, specifically the main arc drama, which seems to alternate between whether it's coming at Peter or Olivia. And I think on a macro level, there's something really beautiful that no matter how many times they cross universes, or have the universes actually shift and change, even when Peter no longer exists, they keep finding each other. If they never were parted, we wouldn't see that.

For me I'm eye-roll-y at the writers on the 'ship front at this point. We get it, you like to get them together for one hot second - but one hot second only! Then they must be torn apart! True love always finding each other is great & all, but it would also be nice if we could find out what it's like when they just get to *be together* without one of them dying or getting kidnapped or getting erased from existence or...

But I feel the only way they could just "be together" is if they were just investigating MOTWs, or if the main arc didn't really affect them in any way. You know? I think they had a nice spell together at the end of last season, honestly, though I was with you previous to that, with all the ridiculousness with Altlivia and the baby (which thankfully they erased from existence, too) and the ~*~betrayal~*~ and all that. But I just haven't been able to complain this season - it's felt organic to the overall story.

I just feel like of all the TV I've watched, and all the ships I've rooted for, Peter and Olivia have had better luck and been together longer than just about anyone. Maybe that's why I'm feeling okay with it? IDK.

True, true. Although I can't say as I expected them to get into it with quite that line of dialogue.

They have never in fact addressed alt!Nina at any point on the show, and now I'm wondering if that was intentional so as not to ruin the COMPLETELY AWESOME surprise here! I think we've almost certainly been watching alt!Nina since "Wallflower," and maybe since before, and presumably Amber!Nina has been in custody since then. But I want to know so much mooooooore about this!

See, now I'm wondering if we ever saw Alt!Nina back in Ol' Blue, either. It's just so delightfully surprising, and I still can't say why we haven't all just been beside ourselves waiting for when we'd finally meet her - I think I may distantly remember wondering way back when we first saw the Redverse, that she was the one regular who, aside from Peter obviously, didn't seem to have an alt, but the show never mentioned it and it became the absolutely proverbial out of sight, out of mind.

My working theory now has to be that we've seen this alt!Nina the whole season. So if she's from the Other Side in the amber continuum (my God we need a better nomenclature for this shit), are they not aware their Nina is missing? Does she work with Walternate? I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS! But they are the best kinds of questions, where I'm just so excited about the fact the show has taken me someplace unexpected, and I just want to know moooooore.

You mean like just randomly evilling around? That would be awesome even beyond the level of something like Peter saying he remembered the GI Joe looking different in "Inner Child" or the substance in the bus from "Ghost Network" being Amber. I'm not sure how they would reveal that without taking us all the way back to Blueverse, though, which I get the impression they aren't inclined to do.

I've wondered what alt!Nina is up to, or if she even existed, pretty much since the end of S2, but it's been very much in the background. (Mostly I wanted more of our Nina, and especially our Nina being vaguely evil.)

My working theory now has to be that we've seen this alt!Nina the whole season.

That would make sense. Otherwise we presumably would've had a scene before the end of "Wallflower" that we would now look back on and go, "OH, that's when they put alt!Nina in our!Nina's place!"

the Other Side in the amber continuum (my God we need a better nomenclature for this shit)

We desperately do. Back during the first or second episode, I came up with Cyanverse and Pinkverse, since they're versions of Blue and Red with something missing (i.e., Peter), but the internet at large went with Amber and Red, and I went along with that. But I would've enjoyed Cyan and Pink.

are they not aware their Nina is missing?

Or are they even aware of her at all?

I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS! But they are the best kinds of questions, where I'm just so excited about the fact the show has taken me someplace unexpected, and I just want to know moooooore.

Yes! I am so glad to be here instead of spinning our wheels like we were for all too much of the middle of this season.

See, I think Amber works well, but you still have to differentiate between Here and There. Amber Here and Amber There? Oh, Fringe, you do make things difficult. (Do we know what the writers call them?)

I don't think so. I think I remember them calling the two sides Over Here and Over There when there was just one timeline, but I haven't heard them mention it since Peter messed with things.

So glad you've caught up to watching live!

I think I agree with you that regular Nina probably has been held captive and Alt!Nina has been the one drugging Olivia. It kind of makes sense? Though it's hard to know what makes sense yet when we don't know half the facts.

Also yeah as soon as Olivia left the car it was basically inevitable something not good was going to happen to her.

Eta: Now I'm just wondering if Olivia got to pee first before she got kidnapped....or if she's been kidnapped, drugged and still really has to pee. Cos that would suck. ;)

It makes more sense than a Nina who took Olivia and Rachel in and cared for them starting to drug Olivia like that - I had been wondering if that had been Nina's plan from the moment she fostered the girls, and it did not make me like Nina very much. I'm glad to assume instead she's been replaced, hopefully fairly recently.

Heeeeee that might add a nice note of levity to the beginning of next week's ep, if poor Olivia still has to pee.
