It's time for another one.  I will begin with this amazing face that my youngest sister has started making.  Like many things, she did it once, I laughed forever, so now she's going to do it at every opportunity.  But it's so awesome, I can't begrudge her doing it.  I think she asked me to buy her a sub and I told her no, and this was the result:

She looks like Orson Welles!  She seriously does, OMG.  Look.

Amazing.

Revision time!  Yes, I print six pages to a page, double-sided; I can print an entire script with about ten-twelve sheets of paper.

The inexplicable snack machine in my work's break room.  I tried it once and got the wrong M&Ms.

Latin books!  This isn't even all the Latin books.

My sixteen year old sister's luxurious gray hair.

In conclusion, I had this plan for making tons of Miranda gifs, but I never seem to have time, so here's the one gif I've made thus far, maybe, potentially more pending.

The cats are absolutely adorable. Lol. By the way, I was looking for something to do and remembered you mentioning Miranda and I have to say it's pretty good.

Yay Miranda! I'm glad you're liking it.

I was amazed I got all three cats together; the younger two are best buds, but Grandpa Phoenix doesn't usually let the babies that close to him.

You know what, I didn't even notice the third one in the back till you said there were 3 and I looked for it. Yeah, nothing gets past me. Lol.

Aw, your sister is growing up. I keep thinking of her as this child who wasn't allowed to watch Arrested Development, but aha, that was, like, seven years ago.

Is that GIF from the first episode? I must have missed that part. Or is there another ep where she dresses up like a tranny?

Yeah, it's from the first episode. She goes upstairs to change, and does...that, LOL, on the steps.

I know - Sarah is 16. It's ridiculous. It makes me feel old. :(

Yay random picspam! That's a great face your sister's making. Can I just say how impressed I am you're teaching yourself latin? I've been having a major case of can't-make-myself-do-ANYTHING lately, and that just makes it all the more amazing.

Aw, well, I think for me a lot of it is that I don't have to do Latin. I could give it up tomorrow and it wouldn't matter at all. So it's not this thing I have to make myself do. (I do laugh every time I'm at Starbucks and I have it out, and people ask me what college I'm going to - and I'm like, nope, just doing Latin homework for fun!) I have taken breaks from it, like I did last summer/fall, which is why I'm doing (yet another) review.

Fun pictures, yay!

Adorable cats. And that snack machine looks incredibly complicated.

That snack machine... You have to have exact change, and if you spin it too much and overshoot what you want, you have to spin all the way around again, and in the meantime your coworkers are behind you watching and waiting, and eventually you're like, fuck it, I will bring my own cheese puffs.

Heee, that is an awesome face your sister makes. And I love the Latin books (I have similar absurd collections for both French and Old English, for all the good they do me...), and kitties! So cute! ♥

(Also, good idea with the printing four to a page... I'll have to keep that in mind.)

I've always wanted to learn Old English. I have a copy of Beowulf with the original on one page and the modern English translation on the other, and sometimes I try to figure out what the words are, but it doesn't really work like that.

One time, when I had a lot of scripts to print off and read for class, I printed them nine pages to a page - but that's going a little too far.

Yeah, the facing editions like that are awesome (especially for Beowulf, as it's probably the Seamus Heaney translation? He's just plain fantastic...), but not all that helpful. I have a few grammars and things like that, too (for all the sense I can make of them - they tend to be dense little buggers), and then books of poetry, kennings and things, with academic translations that sometimes make things a little more clear, I've had to admit that I'm never going to get all that far with it. Alas.

Tiny print! Good on you, though - too many people don't give a damn about wasting paper. ♥

I'm pretty sure it's Seamus Heaney - that name sounds familiar, at any rate.

What's helping me a lot right now are a couple of textbooks that are "immersive," in that almost all of it is written in Latin. I don't think it's the kind of thing I'd have been able to follow without doing a few years of traditional, grammar-based study, but I'm finding it fantastic in terms of making me stop translating everything into English in my head as I go along.

You give me too much credit - I don't like to waste paper, sure, but I really don't like to waste ten cents a page. ;)

You're right, your sister does make a face like Orson Welles - lucky you! *g*

I didn't know you're into Latin! I learned Latin at school and I've recently begun to freshen things up, so I re-bought my old textbooks and stuff and began learning at home! What a coincidence!

Hey! That's pretty cool. I've reached the point where I'd like to have the equivalent of a conversation lab, because nothing makes learning a language better than getting beyond translation; but my sister, who took Latin in college, is starting to lose her knowledge, so it doesn't really work.

Any time you want to have a Latin convo, let me know! :D

From: [identity profile] sallycandance.livejournal.com
*lol* I'd love to at some point - you don't get to use Latin in everyday conversations (except for a few words), so it's kind of hard to stay in connection with the language when you're not sat at the table, crouched over grammar/vocabularies.

LOL your sisters face^^ But why does she already have grey hair?

This snack machine looks evil, like you put your money in and get nothing out...

*woot* Miranda! I have to save all the other ones you showed me as soon as I'm at my place where the internet is better than here at my parentsxD

She already has some gray hair because she has vitiligo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitiligo); there's a patch of it in her scalp. No pigment in the skin, no pigment in the hair. It's actually white hair as opposed to gray, and the texture isn't like most people's gray hair - it's very fine and smooth.

I am so glad so many people are watching Miranda! That way when the new series starts I'll have a bunch of people to squee with. :D

Oh I see.
But kind of cool when it's very fine and smooth. Kind of reminds me of Rouge from the X-Men moviesxD

I can't wait for the next season though I'm afraid it'll take a while like last time.

Hahaha, your sister's face is hilarious.

I actually think I would enjoy figuring out that snack machine, it looks a little terrifying.

I've decided it's actually for the best that the snack machine is so weird, because this way I'm not tempted. The first time I went up to try it, though, there were a lot of people in the break room, so I was all, oh, just came up with a handful of change to...to...get some ice! Just gettin' some ice...

And oh, kitties. I just want to snuggle them.

After I took those pictures, I got up on the bed with them, and they all woke up fully and ran away to their dinner bowls, wailing plaintively because they were staaaaaaaarving. No snuggles.

I'm trying to figure out the snack machine, and failing, and I'm afraid if I keep puzzling about it, my brain will explode.

First of all, you have to have exact change. Coins only. Then you push the little yellow buttons at the base, and the entire inner clear plastic apparatus turns. And when you have what you want lined up on the left side, you open this little plastic door. Except if you overshoot, sometimes it won't spin back, and you have to spin it all the way around again, unless you're my sister, and it stops moving entirely and starts going CLANG CLANG CLANG and I shout "Run oh God run for your life!" and you just leave. :(

Aww, kittehs.

That snack machine looks complicated. Like snack roulette or something.

MIRANDA! I'm not quite through series 2 yet, but getting there.

Haha! This entry made me laugh, both at that face and that snack machine. Why would anyone event such a contraption?

I guess it's cheaper than a regular snack machine? But we have a regular pop machine, so yeah. I don't get it.

Never seen a vending machine like that. It looks like it'd be much easier to take a hammer to.
