This has been a pretty good year as far as concerts go.  This summer we went to see Jónsi, and two weeks ago we saw Sufjan Stevens.  Last night, though, we went to see my favorite band - Gogol Bordello!

I like that video because it gives you some indication of what their live shows are like; namely, crazy.  Like, totally crazy.  This band LOVES to play live, and the more worked up the audience gets the more worked up they get.  It's like a feeding frenzy.  Last night, I think their encore was as long as the show, because Eugene just wouldn't leave the stage, and kept playing just one more song.  Speaking of Eugene...

This is Eugene Hütz.  Yes, he has an umlaut in his name.  Would you take a look at this GQMF?  He was born in the Ukraine, but now he lives in Brazil.  What is that.  He impregnates women just with his moustache.  He speaks like a million languages.  Sometimes he performs in high heels, because he is just that awesome.

Look at this band.  Does your favorite band have an accordion player?  Does your favorite band have a fierce as shit Russian violinist?  Does your favorite band have dancers who sometimes play random percussion instruments and jump up on speakers to yell at the audience?  Does your favorite band just drop Spanish rapping into their songs all willy-nilly?  The answer to all these questions is no.  Your argument is invalid.

In conclusion:

HA! This post made me laugh out loud several times. I think you put a couple of Gogol Bordello songs on a mix CD for me once, but the video is really necessary in this case. Amazing.

They really are incredible live. They just played Lawrence like in August, too; I think all they do is tour. I'd love to have the guts sometime to actually go down into the pit, but both times we've seen them we've had seats in the balcony.

I love Gogol Bordello, but I don't want to die at one of their concerts.

That is cuh-rayzee! I get the impression the band members are from everywhere, but where are they based out of?

I was sitting here thinking Eugene Hütz's voice sounds strangely, irritatingly familiar, and I *just* figured out I have a song of theirs someone put on a mixed cd for me, but I'd never paid attention to who sang it before. Lol.

(Just got around to going back and watching the videos.)

The band started with Eugene, the violinist and accordionist, and the two dancers, in NYC. Now I don't think they're based out of anywhere in particular; mostly because all they do is tour, LOL. Eugene is Ukrainian, the violinist and accordionist are Russian; the guitarist is from Israel, the bassist is from Ethiopia; Elizabeth is from Scotland, Pamela (who's either taking a break from the band or is no longer with the band, no one knows) is American (and Elijah Wood's ex); the rapper/percussionist is from Mexico, and the drummer is American.

Cuh-rayzee is right!

Eugene was also in Everything is Illuminated (with Elijah, aw) - he's wonderful. It's a great movie, too; I recommend it.

THAT'S why he looks familiar! I thought it was just because he looked like a lanky, grungy James McAvoy, but OMG, that movie. All the girls want to be carnal with me because I am such a premium dancer!
