.....I kind of have a mad passion for that picture of Delenn carrying Garibaldi over her shoulder. I mean, really.

Her makeup, however, has issues. As does G'Kar's. Someone got paid to design those makeup designs. *Flails* I really should have gone into makeup design, if people like this are getting jobs!

(...Granted, they probably got paid in peanuts, literally. If they were lucky. And they seem to have gotten fired and replaced with someone with actual aesthetic sense before the real show. So, you know. Probably still better that I actually have a regular job. But still.)

And your reaction to Sinclair and his girlfriend delights me immensely.

What kills me is that the rest of the series makes many references to The Gathering, so even if we can kind of pretend that Delenn never looked like that, are we still supposed to assume she was able to just haul Garibaldi up and carry him over her shoulders? Because it's one thing to go along with a retcon of someone's appearance, but another to imagine a different resolution to the climax.

It's just so goddamn weird.

Mira was probably also upset with the direction she must have gotten to not move her face; any time she speaks or makes too much of a facial gesture, you can see all kinds of horrible things happening where her big fake jaw is blended into her actual face. She's kind of gritting out all of her dialogue through clenched teeth. It's awful.

There are also enormous gaps between her bone crest and her head. It's just an awful job all around. I wish I had that gif of Gary Oldman from The Professional screaming "I have had it with this Mickey mouse bullshit!" because it's really the only appropriate response.

I'm stuck with the hilarious but awesome mental image of Delenn just sort of up and picking up Sheridan at some point, and him being all "BWUH?" Because of course she'd have spent the past however-many 15 or so years pretending that she was a Delicate Flower of Femininity because her research indicates that Human men might get a little freaked by the idea of a girl half their size who can, you know, pick them up and throw them over her shoulder.

Also, this makes her complete lack of fighting back in "GROPOS" just that extra bit more appalling. Which is pretty scary considering I've always found her lack of nerve in that scene a little weird. Don't get me wrong, I'd be scared shitless in that situation and would probably be unable to so much as think, just like she seemed to be. I just hope for my heroines to be slightly more put-together than me, and Delenn certainly seems to be every other time we see her in a spot, so... it's a bit odd. Especially if she can pick them up and throw them over her shoulder.

Your description of the way the mask is pulling and the way poor Mira has to try to speak without emoting or moving her face just pains me. Pure and simple.

And... yeah. God, I'm glad I haven't seen this thing. The Boy keeps trying to convince me we should watch the movies next, because he's a total completist, but... I'm not sure I could handle it.

Hee! I think with Garibaldi and Daffy, it's feels more like "this grown man just really loves classic cartoons," but that baseball thing just looked very much like the kinds of decorations they put up in model homes to show which room is for boys and which for girls.

I got a better look at it in another shot, and there were weird blotchy circles of color at the top, so I'm not sure what it's supposed to be. It sure as hell looks like a baseball diamond, though.

Yeah, I ordinarily find G'Kar to be quite handsome, so his look in this was just weird. And kind of creepy. In that, I was afraid G'Kar was a creeper.

I had to run downstairs in the middle of the night to turn off my computer because we were having a thunderstorm, but I of course had to check my email first, and let me just say that this is not the type of thing one should read in the middle of the night vaguely asleep. I laughed hard enough, I'm surprised I didn't wake the neighbors.

Can you imagine? God, can you even imagine Delenn, teeny, tiny Delenn of the series, just picking Sheridan up and carrying him around somewhere? Because we can't just ignore The Gathering, it's totally canon and referenced throughout the show, so that means that Delenn totally could just pick up grown men and carry them around.

Ugh, thanks for reminding me of that scene in "GROPOS." That is one of a scant handful of moments from the whole series where I'm just like, "Mira, honey, no." Much like your reaction to her vaudeville "gasp!" the other day. She's playing it like she's very angry, but the script has her being this scared little girl, and it's just the weirdest disconnect that doesn't work at all.

Apparently! Although that does put us in the strange position of re-imagining "The Gathering" without everyone looking horrifying. Which I guess is sort of how we remember large parts of the series anyway (ie, imagining that MedLab isn't made of badly-painted plywood, imagining that the Centauri court doesn't look like it could be blown over with a breath, imagining the early space scenes don't look like a really bad video game...), so that doesn't change much in the end. Delenn, though... It just piques the curiosity.

It's hard to forget, much as one may want to. It really is a bizarre disconnect. This is the woman who stands down whole fleets, who bullies the Warrior caste on a regular basis.

You know, one of those many times when Delenn was nagging Sheridan? "John, you need to rest, and eat." And he would shake his head and go on and on about all the shit he had to do? She should have just picked his ass up and carried him through the station and put him to bed herself.

It wouldn't have been vastly different from how things normally went, really.

I know WTF is with the smushy face?! Honest to God, I have not seen kissing like that outside frickin' Golden Age Hollywood cinema. It is so weird. Honestly, though, I don't think I'd have such a problem with Sinclair Smooshy Face if it weren't for TRG. I never found myself shouting out "NOOOOOOO" like Darth Vader when he was macking on Sakai.

Right after Sinclair and Garibaldi get off the elevator, and Garibaldi is shot, Sinclair goes after the Changeling. And he has to take cover behind some crate or something, so instead of just, you know, running over, he of course ROLLS ON HIS BACK AS HE DIVES FOR IT. I was going to put "Somersaulting like a boss" over it, but I could not get a decent cap of it to save my life. I was very sad.

Here is what I would do with Intersections. You know, just as an example. You can tell me if it would pain you too much, LOL.

I always got distracted by the light up star chart globe I never noticed the baseball diamond pic. I've always loved the part where Delenn picked up Garibaldi like a sack o'taters ovre her shoulder. I always assumed her character lost some of her mighty-might strength after her change, bummer that. Thank goodness for Mira's accent making the voice dubbing thing not work so they made her less androgynous. Poor Mira, such a beautiful woman made to look that way. Love the pretteh screencap of Kosh, I always thought that moment spoke through posture.

I love the star chart globe; it is so pretty. It is like the only piece of set design in the pilot that is pretty. Then again, I love globes in general.

It was her accent that made the voice dubbing not work? I didn't know that! That is kind of cool, actually. Funnily enough, after I watched The Gathering, I ended up watching that bit at the beginning of Atonement, with her in her pretty dress, because I wanted to see pretty Delenn - it's remarkable how much less of an accent she had by that point in the show. I mean, still quite there, no doubt, but it was much thicker in the pilot.

Okay, so I did not gigglesnort at "I love globes in general" repeat I did not. *looks around innocently* :P

From my recollection from a commentary or Q&A with JMS he said they were still having a hard time getting the dubbing to sound good at a dropped octave level because of Mira's accent. So they previewed the pilot to the test audience with Mira's voice as is and the audience's response to her voice was so positive that they decided to leave it. I love her voice, it's so lovely. :)

Is "I love globes in general" a "that's what she said" and I just didn't catch it? Because I'm usually very vigilant about that kind of thing, being as how my sisters and I are into, like, year four of our Very Important Catch Every Instance of That's What She Said In the Universe.

I adore her voice. I could listen to her forever. I, um, totally have just sat and watched YouTube interviews with her when she's speaking Croatian, and I have no idea what's going on; I just like listening to her talk.

Intersections - BIG deal made about the time of day and Sheridan getting half of the corned beef sandwich. And the interrogator launches into this "it's the mustard that makes it good; the brown, with the seeds" yadda yadda. And then he gives John some. And then John eats it all defiant like. And then he spends the whole night throwing up on account of the sandwich was poisoned.
