I'm still here!

So, I got an email that my paid account was due to expire. I had two choices. Let it expire? But that seemed a tacit acknowledgment that I would never post again. So I had to renew, obviously. But once I paid for a blog that I hadn't used in a year (a year?!), I realized that I absolutely had to post again, today, immediately.
(I waited like six hours to make this post, obviously.)
Soooooooooo, it's been awhile! There are a multitude of reasons (three, maybe four) for why I quit posting for a year (A YEAR?!?), but I won't get into everything now. Mostly because it's boring and I doubt anyone cares. But I wanted to say hello! I'll be endeavoring to getting back into the swing of things and maybe making things and writing things again, and checking up on my flist, and other such online fandom thingies!
I feel like I should add something of substance to this post, however, so have literally the only thing I've done in Photoshop in the past year: a teeny-bop collage of silent film star Conrad Veidt! (My sister went through A Phase.)

Date: 2015-09-30 03:28 am (UTC)I watched the series finale of CSI this week, which I hadn't watched in years, and things happened with Sara and Grissom, and I couldn't bother to care. And I thought, "Hm. Maybe I'm a grizzled 30-something who's not into shipping anymore." Then, I saw the X-files trailer today and realized "NOPE." Yay for fandom.
I miss you guys! I was totally thinking of trying to find a way to watch The X-files with someone from the PFTT crew, but of course, it airs on Sunday nights, and I teach on 8:00 on Mondays spring semester. Sigh. Either way, I will need someone to shriek with. Maybe just electronically.
You are officially the only person I've ever known who makes teenybopper collages of German silent film stars. ASOME.

Date: 2015-09-30 03:25 pm (UTC)So what happened with Sara and Grissom? That will absolutely determine whether I watch at all or not.
Man, I wish I were more excited about XF. IDK, it just...hasn't felt like it's really XF yet. I'm sure that GA's ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE WIG isn't helping, because I look at her and weirdly enough, it just doesn't look like Scully to me. So I feel like I've kinda got this disconnect going on.
We'll definitely have to figure something out. I was actually thinking of PFTT not too long ago! Maybe we need to come up with something new like that. (I understand that modern people use Facebook for things like that, but I am Leslie Knope dot no dot gif when it comes to Facebook.)
Yeah...Sarah took a silent film class last spring and watched two or three movies with Veidt and just fell in love with him. It was super cute.

Date: 2015-09-30 09:36 pm (UTC)They brought back Grissom and Catherine, but not Nick. Grissom and Sara had apparently gotten married and divorced since I stopped watching the show, but the finale had them get back together and literally sail into the sunset. Which is great, although it also implies that Sara gave up a promotion to lab director because of that, which isn't great...Anyway, the finale is decent; Lady Heather is in it, and it's a pretty standard CSI case. Nothing mind-blowing.
I'm trying to avoid focusing on the wig (yes, it's terrible) and other weird stuff, like how CSM is back even though I'm pretty sure they killed him. I'm still excited, though. Kumail Nanjiani from Silicon Valley does an X-files podcast that I listen to, that some people credit with reviving interest in the series, and he actually has a guest role in one of the episodes. It's kind of cute; his geeking out about it is contagious.
Ha, yeah, I get the Facebook objection. I've gone back and read through old board posts; I don't even remember writing some of that stuff, heh. I use FB, Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram, but nothing ideal for long-form conversations. Let me know if you think of anything!

Date: 2015-09-30 11:48 pm (UTC)That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. I'm assuming they had to figure out how to explain why Sara came back but not Grissom, and that's what they came up with? Ughhhhhh... At least they ended up together in the end, which is all I required.
Yeah, I keep meaning to listen to the X-Files Files, but I'm just not a podcast person these days - I used to listen to them all the time in school, but I don't have a "commute" anymore, so. One day! Maybe! Probably not!
Goodness, I don't even remember the URL for the old board. I had to wipe my computer a couple years back and didn't back up my bookmarks. I know it was all our names squished together, but not where it was hosted. (I'm pre-embarrassed at the thought of reading some of that old stuff.)
Tumblr is the worst. THE WORST. I've been sorta low-key into Walking Dead the past year (mostly just Carol), and just lurking it's terrible. I can't even imagine trying to participate. There is no way to have a meaningful conversation with more than one person on that site without it being a total nachtmare.

Date: 2015-10-01 03:04 am (UTC)I really enjoy The X-Files Files; I tend to save it up for traveling. I don't watch the episodes along with him, but I did a full rewatch in 2013, so I have a pretty good recollection of most of them. Plus, he's had interesting people from the show on like writers, producers, musicians, and actors.
I have the board URL if you ever want it, but yeah, nobody posts on it anymore. Tumblr is okay if you follow the right people. It's not a great place for long-form conversation, but if you have specific pop culture interests, like Donald O'Connor, academic jokes, Rifftrax, animals talking in all caps, or sites that pair Mad Men quotes with images from Archer (it's called Sterling Archer Draper Pryce), it's fun. I have the same URL on Tumblr as I do on here.
