kungfuwaynewho: (b5 john watches delenn)

I started working on the next chapter of Metamorphoses today!  I posted the last chapter in September of 2010.  I'm pretty sure I'm officially the worst.  I had to reread the whole thing myself to remember what I was doing with it, whooooops.

Anyway, I was trying to keep it canon, but in thinking about how I wanted to end it, I found myself having a bit of a dilemma.  So I'm just going to throw some questions out to the crowd.

If you're reading a canon-compliant WIP and it turns non-canon-compliant, does this bug you?  More specifically, with regards to John/Delenn, do you view their kiss at the end of "And the Rock Cried Out..." to be their actual first kiss, or just the first one we were shown?

Probably showing my hand there, but I am genuinely curious.

I think "And The Rock Cried Out..." was their first proper kiss simply because of their body language - they're both tentative in a way they wouldn't be if they'd kissed before.

And if a story advertises itself as canon-compliant and then diverges from canon, yeah, that bugs me. If, on the other hand, I know that it's a bit AU (or even might go AU in the future) then no, not really. (I mean, for J/D yes, but I don't read B5 fanfic as a rule anyway. Although I might give yours a shot once it's not a WIP anymore. :D)

Thanks for the prompt reply! Grr, I think the way they shot that kiss it was meant to be their first kiss, but that just...irritates me for so many reasons, heh. I like to generate reasons for why it's not the case. But yeah, I see what you're saying.

Hmm. I will take this into consideration. :D

My personal headcanon is that they've been kissblocked by the Shadow War and that the almost-kiss Ivanova interrupted may have been the first almost-kiss they had but it was certainly NOT the last. Look at them, you can almost see them going, "wait, we can actually kiss now? Ivanova isn't going to pop up and ruin the moment again? Nobody's going to start firing right at this second?" :D

"If you're reading a canon-compliant WIP and it turns non-canon-compliant, does this bug you?" - It won't in this case.

"with regards to John/Delenn, do you view their kiss at the end of "And the Rock Cried Out..." to be their actual first kiss, or just the first one we were shown?" - Actual, although I'd have preferred it to have happened differently. I'd have preferred a lot of their relationship have played out differently from canon TBH, and it's a large reason why I seek out J/D fic. FFS let's give them some privacy!

TBH, I can deal with accepting that as their first kiss a lot better than the idea that they were ENGAGED for MONTHS and never even fooled around.

Now I'm rethinking the kiss thing, LOL. I'll probably just figure it out when I actually write to that point.

Hee! Well, I never really went away. Just been very busy. And no guarantees on when anything will actually be finished/posted.

I'm all in favor of them kissing whenever, lol.

I could go either way as to whether I think that was their first kiss or just the first one we were shown. All I know is that our witnessing of it was long overdue. Since we don't really *know* I think it's up for interpretation and not necessarily against canon if you decide to do it earlier.

It really depends on what the story does with the canon. I did the same thing in a fic because I saw how a scene from the show in question could have gone several ways, so I don't mind if others do it as long as the characterization and plotting remain consistent.

OH OH OH OH.

I guess I don't have to tell you how excited I am about this. So let's get right to the questions: I agree with [livejournal.com profile] roseandheather on the first kiss question, but I don't mind of canon-compliant stories diverge from canon eventually. Especially not if you, say, 'warn' for that at the beginning of the new chapter.
