Scriptapalooza's deadline is next week.  I was planning on submitted The House of Bathory from last year, but really wanted to try and get another script done in time, too.  Unfortunately, the last four months have just been so busy and hectic I didn't get as much writing done as I would have liked.

I'm at page 25 right now.  I would need at least another 70 pages.  I have 7 days.  Can I write 10 pages a day and have something in good enough shape to submit?*  Let's find out!

*Probably not, heh.  But having that as my goal might be enough to get me to have it ready by Nicholl's deadline on May 1st.

Haha, thank you. What kinda sucks right now is I have so aggressively trained myself over the last eight years of writing to (a) write somewhere that isn't my house, and (b) write longhand and type up afterwards, that now that I don't really have time to schlepp here and there to write and certainly not to write twice, essentially, I've sort of buggered myself when it comes to productivity. So I end up sitting in front of my computer having a hard time writing for the first time in that way - I've worn such a pathway in my brain: idea -- pen and paper -- writing -- reading -- typing -- editing. Now I'm trying to go from idea to the last two and it's weird.

Um. Sorry for process thought vomiting at you. I'm having so many conflicting thinkings lately, LOL.

Oh man, I understand that 100%. I tend to write fiction longhand and academic things on my laptop. But lately, I've been trying not to waste so much paper, which often leads to me either writing fiction in my academic voice, or just sitting there staring at the empty page. I think you probably just need to figure out what leaves you with more productive time: staying home and typing with a lot of breaks, or going elsewhere and writing longhand first. I mean, no matter how much time you save by doing it the 'quick' way, it's all for nothing if you can't get out any words, right?

Neeever apologise. Any thought vomiting is welcome. Actual vomiting, now that not so much.

writing fiction in my academic voice

THIS. For me, since I type prose up straight-away, it has made me write my screenplays far wordier than I do normally, since I tend to be far more judicious with my words when I actually have to write each one out by hand.

Part of the problem has come from the move. I used to live about three minutes from Starbucks, which was quiet and hardly ever crowded. Now I'm fifteen minutes away, which is a much bigger commitment to get over there. The places that are close to me now are fast food places, so sometimes music, always loud and crowded. :(

What's also bad is that computer = distractions. Writing longhand away from home was something I started primarily so I would dick around online or play games. Paper, pen, that's it. So I HAD to write. I've had my laptop with me all day but have only managed a page because I keep getting online. X(

Yes, that is the worst. Plus, if you went back to longhand, you could sort of edit while you type it up, couldn't you? Again saves some time.

Ah yeah, I get that. But you could use those 15 mins it takes to get there to figure out problems you have with a script or to think where you want to go next, maybe make a quick rundown of what you want to write in the next hour or two? I hear having some sort of frame helps some people loads.

LMAO. Story of my goddamn life. You could just turn off the wifi, though? My problem is that often I can't even do that. What with me writing in English and all that. I need a dictionary, and the quickest (and most reliable) way to look up words is online. Which means I need to have my Firefox open, with all its shiny tabs... I could just put the German words if I can't come up with the translation, but then I can't focus on what's next until I've figured it out, hah.

The joys of writing (fiction), eh?

Exactly. It's like getting a free editorial pass.

Yeah, I think I'm just going to have to commit to at least one three-hour-minimum writing excursion a week. When I'm committed, I get a lot done. I was there only an hour on Wednesday (waiting for my sister to meet me so we could buy sheets) and I wrote four pages. So I will do what you tell me to do, hee. :D

I totally do a variation on that! I was letting myself get stuck if I couldn't think of what something was called or the right word or a synonym for something. Like, it would be like if I hit a wall or something. I would just be done. Anymore when that happens, I just [put it in brackets] and come back to it later. (Though of course you have to make sure you DO actually come back to it later!) It works pretty well for me, though sometimes I do find myself continuing to try and figure it out anyway.

"OK so I'm in the middle of moving house but I think I'll just bash out an entire film script in a week, what do you think?"

I envy your energy. Are there pills for that? And good luck :D

HAHA! Yeahhhh, it's obviously not going to happen*, especially since I only managed two whole pages yesterday. But I like to give myself unrealistic goals as a way to get my ass in gear. If I can manage 30 pages this week that will be amazing, but it won't happen if I just tell myself "write as much as you can, it's cool, broself."

*NO I'M TOTALLY GOING TO DO IT FOR REAL.
