Does anyone know of a good place to buy bedding that ISN'T comforters?  I don't like big comforters - they're too hot in the summer, and I have an electric blanket so I don't want one in the winter.  I just want something light and pretty to cover my bed with, but I'm having the damnedest time finding anything that isn't Floral Granny Country Barn Chic Quilt Time.

Also why are bed skirts so frakking expensive.  I mean really.

And curtains.  Forty dollars for a single panel?  Come on.

Target? Bed Bath & Beyond? Macy's?

You could make curtains pretty easily....

Sorry. Not real helpful.

I spent a good chunk of childhood looking forward to getting my first apartment so I could decorate, then when it actually happened I found things were too expensive to actually do much. Mreh.

Hadn't thought of Macy's. Target didn't have much in-store, but I haven't checked online yet. Ikea, of course, had tons of pretty ones but absolutely none were available on the website. I don't even know why they bother to have a website, you can't order shit from it.

Maybe you could make curtains easy. I am not good at sewing, LOL. I might have to learn, though, because I am not going to spend $300 or so to put curtains up throughout the house. Just no. That's bullshit.

Hee! I suck at sewing -- they would not be particularly high quality curtains. Sort of, "1. Pick pretty fabric 2. Cut long pieces 3. Hem clumsily." I figure if the fabric is pretty enough no one will notice... right? ;D

I might make my own decorative pillow shams - I'm not spending 30-40 bucks a pop on little pretty pillows.

No comforter, check. Bedspread, maybe?

Try JCPenney, Kohls, Sears - they almost always have sales going on and carry curtains as well (unless you already thought of this - then I know nothing.)

Bedskirts IDK, dude - I've never bought one.

Yeah, I'm looking at bedspreads and coverlets, but so many of them are so...country and homey and quilt-y. I did finally find a really pretty one, but it was only available in twin. WTF.

:(((

Ikea? I know they have pretty awesome duvet covers and blankets of some sort. I've always been distracted by the duvet covers to check out the other bedding.

The closest Ikea to me is a 12 hour drive. Trust me, I would fill my entire house with Ikea if I could.

I had literally never heard of duvet covers before I started searching today! That might be the way I go, I just won't put in a comforter at all.

Meh if I wouldn't be so far away I could at least help you with curtain sewing.
I cross my fingers that you find something good looking and affordable soon.

Hee! Oh, I'll figure something out. Right now I have clearance curtains up my sister bought here and there - none of them match. It's kinda funny. It may just take me awhile to get everything together.

I got mine from Urban Outfitters. It's called a "tapestry" but it's more like a thick sheet, basically, and can be used for beds. It's perfect as a light blanket, and I use it during the summer. Here's a pic. I'm in love with it, haha. I got it on sale so it was only $20, though it looks like urbanoutfitters.com doesn't have anything on sale right now so they're a bit pricey. But the quality is pretty good.

Thick sheet! That's basically all I want. I'll check their website now; most of what I've found is, like, over a hundred dollars (whyyyyyy), so I can't imagine a tapestry would be that much worse.

Most of their tapestries are going for $49 and I'm a huge penny-pincher so to me that's a lot to spend, lol. But it's definitely better than $100! Sheesh!

In lieu of an Ikea near you...

The Company Store has a whole lot of bedding in different weights and colors and I lovelovelove the comforter I got from there (and was, frankly, disappointed that I didn't get to use it this year).
