Maybe if he suggested they all meet back tomorrow, then looked to John for approval?
This would work, or maybe if John was going to organize the students he does it without the help or even against the judgment of the adults? It seems to me that most times when youth "rise up to make a difference" it's because they are acting together in defiance of something they feel the adults are doing wrong/handling poorly.
