NaWriSoMo Day Four

Still doing edits on chapter one. It is about ten times better and more interesting and more dynamic than it was before. (And, if you couldn't tell, longer!)
I was watching The Omen with my little sister last night and realized that I was moving way too fast in my Act One outline, so I'm hopefully going to sit down and revise that today. It made me glad I haven't gotten to the actual drafting stage yet. I'm still just planning out scenes in my head, and I have come to the realization that the other major thing that's holding me back is that I haven't gotten the best read on the protagonist yet. Sometimes a character occurs to me fully-formed and ready to go, and sometimes it's a bit of work to suss them out. I think I may cheat and although the name is different, just write her as a TV or film character I already know. Like poorly-attributed fanfic. I think if you do that with any character but in different circumstances, you'll have changed and molded her enough that by the time you get to the end of the first draft you'll have worked everything out and be ready to go back and write that character as her own person.
(Believe it or not, there were quite a few scenes in the first draft of Fall River where Lizzie Borden was Starbuck.)
