Why do I do these things to myself?

Busssssssy.  Continuing revision on the zombie screenplay, started revision on the TV pilot - I finished the rough draft on that months ago, but never went back to clean up/rewrite scenes from the first two acts that needed changing after I wrote the rest/etc.  Always do things when the ideas are fresh in your heads, kids!  I'm also pondering writing a Game of Thrones spec in the next week - TV specs always are much faster to hashout, so I think I can do it if I really sit down and write this weekend.  Last year, for instance, I wrote a Fringe spec over three days that turned out pretty good, I think.

But anyway, yeah.  Busy.  Haven't really checked my flist much lately, responded to comments as much as I would like, or done my usual internet things.  However, yesterday I found time to read a scary story over on reddit, and guys.  GUYS.  Like, I am an atheist and a skeptic and all that, but I scare myself so easily with paranormal stuff, it's dumb.  And I knew - I KNEW - while I was reading that I was going to have a fun night, and boy howdy.  This is the first chapter, and warning: there is some very graphic violence and imagery in the first two chapters (like, I read and write a lot of horror and I was taken aback), so if that's not your thing, then avoid.  But if you like scary stuff and creepypasta and the like, then I can't recommend this highly enough.

'Cause last night?  I was rill scurred for rill.  You never hear more noises in your house than when it's late at night and you're staring bug-eyed into the dark, sheet up to your chin, trying to hear noises.  I eventually got up and turned my computer monitor back on at 3:30am after laying there forever just getting more and more freaked out.  UGH.  So I'm feeling okay now - sorta punchy - but I'm really going to feel it this afternoon, because I got like three hours of sleep.

AND I JUST OPENED UP A TAB TO KEEP READING THIS THING.  I AM THAT DUMB.   (It's so scarrrrrry though.)

(Someone else will end up reading it and be like, bzuh?  This isn't scary at all!)

What is computer.

Howdy, friends.  I'm currently trying to climb out of my Biannual Extreme Aversion to Social Media Curation and Doing Things on the Internet That Are Not Dumb Games.  I'm never really sure why this happens, but the last couple days even the thought of getting on and checking my flist has left me feeling vaguely panicked.  (I think some of it is this one landcomm I'm in, my flist is absolutely flooded with posts to the social comm, and wading through it has become a nightmare.  I'm probably going to bow out of the comm, and that's about 80% of the reason.)

Took a week off from writing, but am planning on both revising my post-apocalypse TV pilot, which will involve rewriting huge chunks of the first half, and doing a revision on the recently-completed zombie screenplay.  If anyone would like to take a look at the zombie screenplay - not as an in-depth beta, just as a quick "does this read through okay to you?" thing - then let me know.  I feel sort of stuck in my own head about it.

And hopefully will get back to work on the novel soon.  I wish I could write for a full-time job.  Why don't we have patrons anymore?

Between work, writing, Avengers, Game of Thrones, and Community, I find I have very little else going on in my life.  Heh.

This and that.

It was bad enough that I had to work this weekend, and instead of getting the traditional three-day Labor Day weekend, I only got Monday off. But the BPU was out digging something or other, who knows, at the end of my street, and managed to cut the phone line, which meant my house was also without phone or internet this weekend. And of course no one could come out and fix it yesterday.

It's kind of sad how many things I can't manage to get done without the internet. "Let's go to the movies! Oh, no internet. How will we know the times? We could call...nah, let's just sit around and watch Martha Stewart." "That looks like a good recipe! We should make it. What do we need for seven minute icing? Oh, no internet. We could get a cookbook...nah, I think I remember from the show." "Let's go look at houses! Which houses? Oh, no internet. We could...shit, we're gonna have to drag the laptop to McDonald's and look."

Total pain in the ass.

(We found two great houses yesterday, but one is likely out of our price range, and the other is apparently going to public auction today, and I highly doubt we would be able to pay cash. Le sigh.)

I work all day today, then girls' night at Applebee's tonight, then tomorrow I just work 5-9, since I worked Sunday. Except I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow afternoon, and I'm going to find out if I need surgery on my wrist or not, so I'm definitely not looking forward to that. But then Thursday-Tuesday I'm taking a mini-vacation, and I'm pretty excited about that! Unless I've just had surgery on my wrist, in which case, that will suck.

Seriously though, if the internet's not back up tonight, I might die.

Week in Review

(I first tried to post this on Tuesday, and when it wouldn’t go through I saved it.  Since then, I’ve just added to this same post, so I guess you could say that this was my week.)

7/25:
So today was horrifying.  Apparently our air conditioning at work never came on Saturday, and at 2pm they finally closed down, and stayed closed yesterday, too.  Today they allegedly fixed the air at 11am, but either it’s still not working or it’s just going to take forever to cool the building down.  It was 85 degrees when I walked in the doors, and super humid, and it’s weird to talk about an inside space having a heat index, but it totally felt like it was at least 90 degrees inside.  What was worse, the air wasn’t circulating at all, so it was just stifling.

I was pretty exhausted by noon, sort of shuffled about like a zombie to finish out the day, and skipped writer’s group tonight.  Now I’m home and have had a cool shower and such, but I am still super-tired, which does not bode well for the rest of the week.

7/26: BUGS.  LIVE BUGS.  LIVE BUGS IN A BOOK, TRUNDLING ABOUT OVER THE PAGES.  I WAS HOLDING THE BOOK AND THERE WERE BUGS.  LIVE BUGS.  LITTLE TINY BUGS I DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY WERE OH GOD.

TWO HOURS LATER AND I’M STILL ITCHY.

7/27:
I was thinking last night, as I came home, ate, got into bed and read for hours, that it’s not a bad thing to take a break, voluntary or otherwise, from the internet/Livejournal for a few days.  Sometimes I find myself sitting in front of the computer when I get home just out of habit, and not because that’s what I actually want to be doing.  I don’t want everything to be down forever, but I can’t honestly say that it’s not been a bad thing, LJ being down.  I mean, if nothing else, it’s a good idea to not immediately stare at a computer monitor after having spent 8 hours just doing so at work.

I’ve also used some of this time to finally catch up with Luther, which is an amazing show.  Dark, superbly acted, and very original for not actually being original (watch it and you’ll know what I mean), I definitely recommend it.

7/28:
Bug guy came in to pay for his book.  I started explaining about the bugs, and he said, “Oh, laughing out loud, I had that book in this truck I bought off Craigslist for three weeks, and the truck was full of bugs, and I took it to the salvage yard.”  Thanks, bug guy.  Thanks for maybe figuring out that keeping a book in a truck full of bugs might INFEST THE BOOK, TOO.  But he paid for it and was polite and didn’t complain, and that’s more than we get from about 95% of patrons whom we bill, so, eh.  I guess it’s okay.

7/29:
Livejournal is back!  But, I think instead of checking my flist and all that tonight, I’m going to write.  I have, like, eight WIPs and a new screenplay, and I feel like I never have time to write.  Although I did read like 800 pages of A Storm of Swords in the last three days, so maybe I need to sort out my priorities.
