Aw, it always makes me sad to hear that people quit watching, because I think the bulk of S4 is just extraordinary, amazing television. What made you give it up?
*sigh* I hate to answer this question. Basically I need to connect with at least one character in order to really love a series. And I either actively disliked or was indifferent to everyone on BSG. That's really about it. It didn't help that we were watching it at the same time as B5 (on DVD) and my husband kept helpfully explaining to me how superior the effects and ship design, etc. were on BSG. He watched it all the way thru and I did sit through some later episodes with him but it just never clicked. I bought him the boxed set last Christmas, so I may get back to it some day. But life is short and there's an awful lot of good stuff out there.
Aw, I'm sorry I asked you a question you hate answering - you can always abstain! I won't be bovvered! But I've dropped plenty of shows in my time, too, so I totally understand just giving up if it's not doing it for you. You won't get any shit from me about it.
Woah. Benedict Cumberbatch as Baltar is perfect! I was thinking about Gaius earlier and couldn't come up with anyone (I mean, James Callais IS Baltar to me), but he would be *just* the right amount of poncy/twitchy. Win.
And turning Lee into a female is a fascinating choice, and although I was initially surprised, I immediately realized that it would actually be EXCEPTIONALLY badass. I don't know the actress real well, but from the look of her she'd be perfect.
You have inspired me. I might have to do my own recasting picspam. [rubs hands together]
Benedict Cumberbatch as Baltar is perfect! IKR! I adore James Callis, obviously (I adore everyone, obviously), but this was secretly my favorite of the recasts, and the one I think could actually work.
I don't know the actress real well, but from the look of her she'd be perfect. That is the most excellent Anna Torv from Fringe. She's pretty much the greatest actress working on TV right now - amazing. She could play Lee as a man. Not even joking. SHE'S ALREADY PLAYED A MAN THIS SEASON.
Hee, I was thinking about doing one, actually. I may, if I have time. You've got me all bungled on casting Lee as a woman now though, because I suddenly LOVE the idea, but then things get complicated with Starbuck. Because as it stands, one of the best things about Starbuck is that she defies stereotypes, whereas if she's this butch kickass girl who is also... a lesbian... then all of a sudden she's falling into stereotypes again. So IDK. But yes, I've been casting in my head all day. (IT'S SO HARD THOUGH. THE ORIGINAL CAST IS SO PERFECT.)
Hmm, that's true. You know, even when putting this together I didn't even think of it as "oh well now I've made Lee/Kara into a lesbian thing." I guess I never even saw Kara as being particularly straight? She's one of the few characters who strikes me as the kind of person who would totally just fall in love with whomever she happened to fall in love with regardless of gender - we just happened to see that her three canonical relationship were with men. (I say "one of the few characters" because most TV characters are just default straight in characterization BESIDES that they have straight relationships; I don't necessarily feel the same way with Kara. If that makes sense.)
I think there is a stereotype of butch kickass woman being into girls - but it's a male fantasy stereotype. They want to see that girl - who must be stereotypically attractive, don't forget - make out with another girl. Having her have an actual difficult, complicated relationship? I don't think is as much a stereotype. We see the ratings sweep month lesbian kiss, sure, but do we ever actually see relationships?
I love whargarbling on gender representations on TV. Thank you. :D
Are you kidding me? I was ready to watch it with just Naomi Harris. Then you put Anna Torv and Benedict Cumberbatch it in. And now I'm already in love with this non-existent show more than anything. And this is the first time ever I'd think I would feel ok with shipping Kara/Leigh. Because, wow. This cast works for me in so many ways.
Thank you! I, um, took this really seriously, and actually thought a whole lot about not just the individual actors and character match-ups, but how the cast would work together, too. While I did the spams, I imagined scenes from the show but with The Box and Anna doing some of those intense Adama/Lee moments, for instance, and was like...I need this for real.
I want Boxleitner in anything, man. Get this man on a show!
I got mine done because I've missed like two challenges in the last week, and I didn't want to blow off 75 points, too. Sigh. It was a lot of fun, though.
WOW! This recast is amazing. Awesome choices for all them! Can't say who I like the most, tho, probably Boxleitner as Adama, and Cumberbatch as Baltar, but these are all great!
I so want this show redone with your cast now!! XD

Here's a Jack Coleman connection. In Babylon 5, John Sheridan's wife, Anna Sheridan was first played by Jack's wife, Beth Touissant. :P
