New August and September Media

The last time I posted my new media lists was way back at the end of July, and I didn't really have that many readers of this LJ at that time.  So, basically, I've been keeping track of the new books I read, movies I see, and scripted TV I watch for three years now.  At first I started it because it was a really popular meme, but I've kept doing it for two reasons.  One: I like keeping track of things.  I like lists.  I don't know.  Two: It's really helpful to know where I am in both book series and TV shows, if I end up letting time pass.  So right now, there are two different series that I've wandered away from, and it's really easy to look back and say, which was the last book I read?  And just look it up, instead of going to the library and reading the back covers and trying to remember.  Same with TV.  Right now, I'm like, what the hell was the last episode of Dexter I watched?  Since it's been, oh, six months or so since I last watched an episode.

So I mostly just post these for my own benefit.  Feel under no obligation to read and/or comment.

The goals are to read 50 books, see 100 movies, and watch 500 episodes of scripted TV.  I don't worry about anything other than the book goal, which is a reasonable and I think laudable goal to try and meet each year.  I never come close on movies, and I don't see the point in stressing about TV - I watch plenty, and I'm not worried about trying to reach a certain number, especially since I love to rewatch old TV all the time.  In fact, rewatching and rereading is why my book and movie numbers were so low these past two months.  That, and being busy writing and such.

I'm in the midst of slogging through an epic B5 AU, "A Dark Distorted Mirror". It's tedious in parts due to the inexperience of the writer but an impressive undertaking nonetheless. It's one you really can't enjoy until you have completed watching the entire series. I even think there are characters from the various movies and novels in it as well. Parts of it are completely unbelievable but most of it is well thought out. I suspect a good beta would have helped.

I'm also reading "John Carter of Mars" again and I may start "A Game of Thrones" soon to refresh my memory.

I tend to wait until movies come out on DVD to watch them. I think the last new one I saw was "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief."

My TV consists of CSI,NCIS,Fringe,SGU and Haven along with new shows Hawaii Five-0,Detroit 1-8-7 and Blue Bloods right now. Looking forward to Caprica,Sanctuary,V, Riese and The Walking Dead in the future. I'll also be waiting for Merlin,Eureka and Warehouse 13 to return.

The fact that all of the Stargate franchise is up on Netflix for streaming has eaten up way too much of my time lately.

Isn't "A Game of Thrones" in that long George R.R. Martin series? I keep meaning to start that, but I never remember to pick up the first book at the library.

I have such a hard time with long fics anymore, especially those on FFN. I just can't read on the computer that much. I should be a good girl and save all my money for this trip and then for Christmas, but I really want to get an e-reader. And not just for fic, though boy, would that be awesome, too.

I am so excited about Caprica tomorrow! I was going to rewatch the last few episodes today and tomorrow, but I forgot I'm volunteering at the library's health fair today, so...maybe tomorrow. I'll probably only have time for the finale, in that case.

This particular fic has a web page all its' own and is available in various formats. I've transferred it to my iPod touch.

"A Game of Thrones" is the first book in the Song of Fire and Ice series by George R. R. Martin. They're making it into a series on HBO so I wanted to refresh my memory of it.

"Caprica" apparently delivers on the back end of season one so we'll see what happens.
