My dad read The Lord of the Rings to us, although my mom was dead set against it (and anything that had magic in it; blame it on the Baptists). I didn't read TLOR for myself until I was in high school, and had no idea why my mom was so dead set against them.

But I do remember My Teacher is an Alien from grade school. Our teacher read those books to us in 6th grade, and I LOVED THEM. I still remember them fondly, in fact.
