A Question.

What are people's thoughts on Real Person Fiction?  Have you read any of it?  Does the very idea of RPF squick you out?  Do you think less of a writer who tries her hand at RPF?  Is there some RPF pairing you would want to read or even write but don't?  Do you have an unabashed love of RPF (and don't care who frakking knows)?

I'm not saying yet why I'm asking!  But I am curious.

It squicks me out, but not so much that I look at people differently if they read or write it. I know it's a fairly natural thing to end up doing with the way celebrity works in our culture. But just since they're real ppl, and I know it would creep me out if I were the celebrity (although no more more than people posting pics of me and squealing "omg she's so hoooooottttttt i want to be her best friend and/or _______ her RIGHT. NOW.", which, obviously, is the sort of thing I do on a regular basis, which is why I'm not going to judge a rpf author. But rpf is probably where I do draw my own line. Characters who start acting suspiciously like their actor counterparts only. ;) )

And appropriate icon is appropriate if I do say so myself.

Yeah, for some reason I thought you read RPF. Never mind, hee! I actually tried to read an Eddie/Mary once and it didn't work for me at all. AT ALL. So I think for me it's a very fandom/actor-specific thing.

Ah, nope. My fic indulgence is limited strictly to fluffy A/R smut of mediocre quality. ;) Seriously though, it's a minor squick; there are other types of fic that squick me out much more viscerally. Plus, I've known you a while now and you really don't strike me as the run off and start stalking/let the lines blur all creepy-like type, which is where the real squicking/judging starts to come in. Fantasy is fantasy when it stays put. Do not feel judged! ;)

Squick's a fun word. Squick squick squick!

Squick!

You know, I'd like to try my hand at some Battlestar fic. I haven't had any ideas come to me, so...I am giving you one free prompt. I will write whatever you want! Be as general or specific as you like. :D

Although frankly, one of the reasons I haven't seriously considered starting to write myself is that I can never think of anything to write about. So this may never actually turn into anything. But I'll think about it.

Parameters? Length? Canon vs. A/U? Fluff vs. seriousness?

You know, that's the reason I never wrote fic before, either. I just never really had a compelling story/reason to sit down and do it. I still don't quite know what it was about Babylon 5 that hit me in that way; and shit, dude, have I written a lot of fanfiction for that show. It's kinda sad. I could have written a book by now.

Like I said, whatever you want! You don't have to give me a detailed prompt if you don't want; it can just be something like "Bill and Laura, season three, when they were being all flirty about cabins and shit." Or whatever. I'm easy.

I think that's why I've stuck to smutty fluff, even though by definition it's always a little out of character. I like reading about the two of them being happy and getting more of a chance at schnuggles, but bsg as a serious story just doesn't leave me wanting more, the one exception being the whole "LAURA IS THE DYING LEADER WHO SHALL KNOW THE TRUTH OF THE OPERA HOUSE except oh wait, we'll just shunt her epic religous fateful storyline off to the side unresolved in favor of Kara's, and settle the question of the opera house by having the characters in question just happen to run into each other in cic during a battle one day, la di da" thing. Which bugs me, um, obviously, but would take kind of an epic chapter fic to correct, and probably more talent and dedication than I possess.

Anyway. Yes. I'll think on it.
